Releasing Trauma From the Body Through Breathwork

Common across dozens of cultures is the powerful practice of breath work.

Breathwork is a practice that has been used for centuries by people seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences.

When we experience trauma, whether big or small, it leaves its mark on us………..

especially if we don't integrate it as it happens…… which is common.

We can suppress our response in the moment because our minds may perceive it as too much to handle in the moment

…….or we might not feel it socially acceptable to express the sounds, the words, the physical movements that feel right to make in those moments.

This is a mental mechanism designed to help us. But can be tricky to integrate.

It becomes this weight we carry, shaping our lives in ways we might not fully grasp.

We can get locked up… Develop different automatic thought patterns and behaviors that we may not notice.

How do we unlock?

When in a powerful breathwork session, as we shift the chemistry of the body, we can become more sensitive to lingering tensions and energies in the body. Increased sensitivity to these energetics can help us to really feel the lingering residue of the past and encourage us to act out those sounds and movements that were suppressed during the original “lock up.”

This is how a somatic therapy works.

But with breathwork, the purpose is not to relive those painful moments.

Instead, we're exploring them, integrating our understanding of how they've shaped us.
